Today, HCA partnered with AT&T and their “It Can Wait” campaign to help the fight against texting while driving. Both companies feel that it is incredibly important to spread awareness to those who are most affected by this dangerous habit.

The statistics provided by AT&T on texting and driving were very compelling. With the AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign, we ask our interns to make the pledge to never text and drive and hope that they share this message with their friends and family.

Several recognizable names will be attending Tuesday’s event, including former NFL player Derrick Mason. We also will be hosting a very special young man, Wil Craig, who knows firsthand the risks associated with texting while driving.  Wil was in a car accident while his girlfriend was texting and driving. He was pronounced dead multiple times before finally getting over a coma and going through lifesaving surgery. His story is a powerful one that can serve both as an inspiration to take all safety precautions by not texting and driving and as a warning to not participate in this dangerous habit, whether as a driver or passenger. HCA is looking forward to hearing his story first hand.

Our main focus for this event is awareness.  We hope that our interns will become ambassadors for this program and take the pledge to never text and drive.

I hope that as you are reading this, you will want to take the pledge too, and spread the word for others to join you! Taking the pledge is easy: Visit any of AT&T’s retail locations to take the pledge on an AT&T tablet, or take the pledge online from your own smartphone, tablet or computer.
