In the last few years, there has been an explosion of technological development in our everyday lives – how we decide where to eat and book restaurants reservations to the types of devices we can use to video chat with our loved ones in different cities. Likewise, there has been a drive to incorporate those advances in the hands of our caregivers – to empower them to use the tools of their everyday lives inside the walls of hospitals and clinics. The joy of being a Clinical Transformation Officer is having the opportunity to improve healthcare by marrying innovation with improving physician experience of delivering care in this era.
It is with great pride that I share the following cover story article with you. “Tablets and the Influence of Connective Technology”, a look at how the use of tablet devices and smartphones is having a powerful impact on healthcare delivery, is the cover story in the January/February edition of HealthLeaders magazine. Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, President of HCA’s Clinical and Physician Services, and Chief Medical Officer, highlights some of the clinical and business opportunities gained through use of new technology and provides “a-day-in-the-life” scenario of a technology-enabled HCA clinician. The examples he shares provide a glimpse into how our physicians are embracing technology in ways that enhance the clinical conversation.
