There are good reasons for both employers and employees to find ways to encourage healthy choices. Not only does improved health reduce medical expenses for everyone involved, but healthier people are also more productive. Today, more than 81% of America’s businesses with 50 or more employees have some form of health promotion program.

Last year, more than 80% of HCA-affiliated employees participated in the HCA Wellness Program by completing a health screening and taking a Personal Health Assessment (PHA).

But, it’s not good enough to just know your health status if you don’t do anything about it.

So, this year, we’re taking it a step further by offering two new programs that will help our nearly 200,000 employees take action to maintain or improve their health.

Based on screening and PHA results, employees will be eligible to participate in one of two new programs:

  • Employees with certain moderate-risk and/or high-risk scores will be eligible to participate in the H2U Health Coaching Program, which offers access to four free sessions with a professional health coach to focus on nutrition, activity and stress management and to establish realistic goals and improve health scores.
  • Employees with low-risk health scores will be eligible to create an H2U Health Action Plan to help them stay on a healthy track.

It’s Not Just About the Money

It’s true – employees who enroll in an HCA medical plan and who complete a health screening, take the PHA and participate in either the coaching program or the action plan, will be eligible to earn up to $400 in Wellness Credits in a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). They can then use their HRA funds to pay for certain eligible healthcare expenses, like deductibles, copays and coinsurance.

But, participation in the HCA Wellness Program is about more than just $400 in Wellness Credits. We have heard testimonials from employees who didn’t know they had a health issue until they participated in the HCA Wellness Program. The actions they took as a result of that knowledge improved their quality of life – and maybe even saved their life. We believe that is worth more than any amount of Wellness Credits. It’s priceless.

So, don’t stop now. Do it for YOU!
