Rose Medical Center, in Denver, recently tried something different to help educate the public about a new procedure called Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT). Instead of holding a class they decided to use Twitter to live tweet a real IORT surgery! Dr. Barbara Schwartzberg performed the operation on a patient who had early stage breast cancer.
Both the surgery and the live tweeting were successful. And thanks to Twitter, people who were interested in learning more about the procedure were able to ask their questions and get answers directly from the experts via Twitter. For a full transcript and recap of the surgery, head over to Rose Medical’s blog, Rose Knows Health.
